Movement can be meditative
Movement is meditation
Sitting criss-cross apple sauce with eyes closed may not be ideal for most kids. That’s probably true for many adults too!
Meditate (V) - to think deeply or to focus one’s mind for a period of time
Is it possible to be in a meditative state with running, coloring, or gardening? It has been shown that when we move first, it is easier to quiet the mind fully. This is especially true for children of all ages. I’ve noticed repetitive moments is extremely calming for children. This could be as small as playing legos or building a sand castle.
Prioritizing movement in our kids days will make them focus and grow when attention is needed. Schools have learned to incorporate activity into a regular day but continuing movement in the smallest ways once kids get home is the secret to a smoother evening.
What kind of movement does your child enjoy?
